Covance Antibody Products

Our History

In 1998, Covance acquired the Berkeley Antibody Company (BAbCO), bringing scientists an outstanding catalog of ready-to-use antibody products, including leading epitope tag antibodies such as HA.11/16B12, 9E10 and AU1/AU5. The antibody products catalog also includes a collection of well characterized tools in the areas of cell and organelle markers, cytoskeletal components, and cytokeratins. Covance has continued to expand its line of antibody products, by selecting the best antibodies through collaboration with researchers, licensing and commercialization from university laboratories, and acquisition of promising commercial product lines.In 2005, Covance acquired the gold-standard SMI® antibodies for neuroscience via the purchase of Sternberger Monoclonals, Inc. These well-regarded markers and immunohistochemistry detection reagents include the SMI-31 and SMI-32 monoclonals against neurofilaments and key antibodies fordetecting myelin, GFAP and SNAP/SNARE components.

In May 2006, Covance positioned itself as the leading provider of neuroscience antibody products when it acquired key assets of Signet Laboratories, Inc. Signet’s industry-leading antibodies include the monoclonal antibodies 6E10 & 4G8 to beta amyloid and new BetaMark™ ELISA assays for beta amyloid and APP processing, part of a suite of tools at the forefront of Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative disease research. The Covance catalog has also been enriched by Signet’s outstanding line of anatomic pathology and oncology antibodies, including breast cancer and ovarian cancer markers such as BRST-2, D2-40 and HE4. The Covance antibody division is now aligned with Covance’s discovery services group to continue to expand into promising endeavors that empower drug development and discovery research.
